On daughters & birthday celebrations

Still relishing the memories from an all too quick weekend.  Ariana came home this weekend with her boyfriend Conner. They left their crazy schedules and tiny apartments to   come to Virginia and put all that International Culinary Center expertise to work to prepare me, Sam, and Alli a celebratory birthday dinner. Ariana was the head chef and the rest of us were her minions-very willingly of course.

It all started Saturday morning when everyone, sans Alli-as she had a political event that morning, went downtown D.C. for a beautiful & fun bike ride. The weather was amazing as you can see.

Alli arrived just in time to enjoy/help with the whole prep process for our ‘birthday’ dinner that ended our day. And it was stunning.

It’s never quite enough. Thanks for the great weekend everyone! *Maybe one day 50 years from now your grandchild will ask you about this day.

Menu: duck à la blood orange with macédoine de légumes, pommes rissolées, and roasted Brussels sprouts followed by deep chocolate flourless cake with hand-whipped cinnamon cream (and it was indeed ‘hand-whipped’).

*from weekend conversation 🙂

Ciao
